Job Description

The County of Los Angeles is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Professional to fill the role of Psychiatric Technician II. As a member of our team, you will play a vital part in providing essential mental health services to individuals experiencing homelessness.

About the Role
  • Observe, evaluate, record, and report changes in clients' conditions to professional staff members.
  • Provide direct and indirect patient care, including assisting clients with personal hygiene and helping them with bathing and personal grooming.
  • Take and record physical condition measurements, such as pulse, temperature, respiration, weight, and body mass index.
  • Prepare forms related to emergency calls, client evaluations, and record maintenance.
  • Implement de-escalation procedures and techniques and aid or restrain clients to prevent injury to themselves or others.
  • Participate in planning, executing, and documenting interventions related to the client care plan.
  • Collaborate with other mental health staff to develop and manage an effective treatment plan through multi-disciplinary team conferences.
  • Within scope-of-practice guidelines, provide direct client care, complete required documentation, update treatment teams regarding client progress, and provide referrals and linkage to community resources.
  • Administer prescribed medications to clients in acute psychiatric settings.
  • Serve as a mental health service gatekeeper at the mental health ACCESS and Telecommunication Center, performing triage on caller requests for service, referring callers to an appropriate treatment source, and/or dispatching a mobile response team or an ambulance.
  • Contact ambulance companies when ambulance transport is requested through the ACCESS Center or directly operated clinics.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Possession of a current, active, and unrestricted California State License to practice as a Psychiatric Technician.
  • One year of experience* assisting mental health professionals in the delivery of preventative, therapeutic, and rehabilitative psychiatric services to emotionally disturbed or mentally ill clients at the level of Psychiatric Technician I.
  • *Experience is evaluated based on a verifiable 40-hour workweek. Work performed part-time will be prorated on a month-for-month basis.
