We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor with a keen sense of mental health knowledge to join our team at MBI Health Services in California.

Position Overview:
This position is responsible for providing compassionate treatment to individuals struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues. As a Substance Abuse Counselor, you will work closely with clients to develop individualized treatment plans, facilitate groups and individual therapy sessions, and provide education and support to help clients achieve long-term recovery.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct client evaluations and complete diagnoses based on DSM 5 criteria and ASAM Criteria.
- Create individualized treatment plans with clients, including initial, ongoing, continuing care, and discharge plans.
- Complete referral and discharge planning with clients and their families.
- Process insurance reviews in a timely manner or communicate needs to supervisors or treatment teams.
- Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions to address clients' unique needs, including relapse prevention.
- Document all necessary information and maintain accurate records.
- Prepare daily notes highlighting clients' progress or lack thereof.
- Develop lectures on substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders.
- Maintain knowledge of and adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of the counseling profession.
- Pursue ongoing education and training opportunities.
- Mentor and guide entry-level counselors as assigned.
- Collaborate effectively within a treatment team environment.
- Establish goals and objectives with each client based on initial assessments.
- Network with other social service agencies and make referrals as necessary.
- Conduct workshops on relapse prevention, self-help skills, and money management.
- Work with clients throughout detox and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) processes.
- Perform vitals, urine testing, pregnancy tests, and other required documentation.
- CADC certification from the State of California or a minimum of three years' sobriety as a self-identified person in recovery.
- Pass pre-hire requirements, including a criminal background check from the DOJ.
- Able to provide crisis intervention services.
- Experience working in an outpatient setting with underserved populations.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
- Strong understanding of behavior management principles and techniques.
- Experience in substance abuse and mental health counseling, preferably in a clinical setting.
- Ability to conduct diagnostic evaluations and patient assessments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Strong organizational skills with task prioritization abilities.
We offer competitive compensation packages to our employees. This role provides a salary of $25.00 per hour, with flexible scheduling options available, including full-time and part-time positions, with varying shifts Monday through Friday.
