Position Overview:

This position is responsible for providing compassionate treatment to individuals struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues. As a Substance Abuse Counselor, you will work closely with clients to develop individualized treatment plans, facilitate groups and individual therapy sessions, and provide education and support to help clients achieve long-term recovery.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct client evaluations and complete diagnoses based on DSM 5 criteria and ASAM Criteria.
  2. Create individualized treatment plans with clients, including initial, ongoing, continuing care, and discharge plans.
  3. Complete referral and discharge planning with clients and their families.
  4. Process insurance reviews in a timely manner or communicate needs to supervisors or treatment teams.
  5. Facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions to address clients' unique needs, including relapse prevention.
  6. Document all necessary information and maintain accurate records.
  7. Prepare daily notes highlighting clients' progress or lack thereof.
  8. Develop lectures on substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders.
  9. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to company policies and procedures.
  10. Demonstrate confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards of the counseling profession.
  11. Pursue ongoing education and training opportunities.
  12. Mentor and guide entry-level counselors as assigned.
  13. Collaborate effectively within a treatment team environment.
  14. Establish goals and objectives with each client based on initial assessments.
  15. Network with other social service agencies and make referrals as necessary.
  16. Conduct workshops on relapse prevention, self-help skills, and money management.
  17. Work with clients throughout detox and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) processes.
  18. Perform vitals, urine testing, pregnancy tests, and other required documentation.
Requirements
  • CADC certification from the State of California or a minimum of three years' sobriety as a self-identified person in recovery.
  • Pass pre-hire requirements, including a criminal background check from the DOJ.
  • Able to provide crisis intervention services.
  • Experience working in an outpatient setting with underserved populations.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of behavior management principles and techniques.
  • Experience in substance abuse and mental health counseling, preferably in a clinical setting.
  • Ability to conduct diagnostic evaluations and patient assessments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational skills with task prioritization abilities.

We offer competitive compensation packages to our employees. This role provides a salary of $25.00 per hour, with flexible scheduling options available, including full-time and part-time positions, with varying shifts Monday through Friday.
