About the Role

The Security Officer provides a secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees at Sentara Hospitals and Free-standing Emergency Departments. This individual actively patrols campus, monitors activity, and responds to routine and emergency situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol campus and monitor activity in and around buildings and grounds
  • Respond to routine and emergency situations
  • Perform camera surveillance and maintain department logs and records
  • Use computer skills for documentation of daily activities
  • Conduct security investigations and evaluate situations for professional and timely resolution

Requirements

  • High School Grad or Equivalent
  • Drivers License
  • Active Listening, Communication, Critical Thinking, Judgment and Decision Making, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Service Orientation, Speaking, Writing
  • Certified Healthcare Security Officer, Handle With Care Cert
  • De-Escalation training and physical intervention training must be successfully completed within 180 days of hire
  • Former military, law enforcement, or security officer experience preferred
