Overview

Merrick & Company is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer III to join our Energy, Manufacturing & Bioprocessing Business Unit. This full-time, direct hire position will be responsible for engineering, design, coordination, client communications, and associated construction administration.

The successful candidate will work in a dynamic multi-discipline environment, accountable for the oversight of engineering deliverables, calculations, systems and equipment selection, mechanical design, mechanical engineering budget and schedule management, and maintaining professional relationships with vendors, customers, and other Merrick personnel as required by projects.

Responsibilities
  1. Apply knowledge in Bioprocessing, Oil & Gas, Chemical, Power, and Industrial facilities/systems (Conceptual Design):
  2. Ensure understanding and compliance with owner's requirements of the facility or corporate standards related to mechanical design.
  3. Confirm and review applicable codes and standards such as, but not limited to, the IBC, ASME, API, PIP, and NFPA.
  4. Establish and document the mechanical systems basis of design and provide clarification, qualifications, and design assumptions regarding relevant design issues.
  5. Work with facility owner to ensure that the appropriate cost-effective systems and equipment are utilized in their facility.
  6. Work with owner and construction management team to validate construction cost and provide value-engineering options as necessary.
Design
  1. Perform and document engineering calculations related to mechanical engineering for the purpose of selecting code-compliant systems and equipment.
  2. Perform system and equipment selections.
  3. Perform sizing of equipment.
  4. Provide input to piping group related to mechanical equipment and establish the appropriate level of detail to ensure completeness and accuracy of design and construction cost.
  5. Schedule mechanical equipment data sheet and specification reviews.
  6. Ensure project specifications are complete and accurate.
  7. Perform pipe stress analysis utilizing software such as CAESAR II, NozzlePro, etc.
  8. Work with the project team to design a cohesive, technically acceptable, and optimized piping system.
  9. Perform pressure vessel calculations utilizing software such as PV Elite.
  10. Perform detailed reviews of piping isometrics, piping plans, pipe specifications, P&IDs, and other design documents.
Construction Support
  1. Responsible for problem-solving for field oversights.
  2. Responsible for vendor drawing/Submittal review.
  3. Perform field inspections and review of reports.
  4. Responsible for addressing project RFI.
Profitability
  1. Complete project within provided budget and prepares Change Orders when scope is expanded.
Planning/Scheduling
  1. Provide direction for what is to be included in bid package issue.
  2. Work with Project Engineer/Manager to ensure that project schedule will be met, and complete documents provided for each deliverable.
Professional Development
  1. Maintain required licensing CEU.
  2. Proactively attempt to receive in-house/out-of-house training to maintain and update skills.
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET accredited program required.
  2. Experience working successfully in a collaborative environment.
  3. 8+ years industry experience.
  4. Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain your PE within the first year of employment.
  5. Experience with Design/Build and EPC projects.
  6. Experience leading teams of engineers on design projects.
  7. Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and be insurable under Merrick's insurance carrier.
  8. Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Desired Qualifications
  1. Pipe stress analysis experience utilizing software such as CAESAR II.
  2. Significant experience with bioprocessing facility equipment and systems.
  3. PV Elite pressure vessel analysis.
  4. Knowledge of ASME B31.3 and B31.1.
