Job Title: Technical Designer

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Designer to join our team at Tillys. As a Technical Designer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and accuracy of our products.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the buying team to gain clear direction of design and fit intent while maintaining fit consistency.
  • Work closely with the manager and buyers to meet deadlines for each style.
  • Create technical packs with detailed sketches and specific construction details to ensure that first prototype samples meet intended style, fit, and construction.
  • Maintain all technical aspects of the tech pack sent to the vendor, including detailed construction, sewing instructions, measurement verification, tolerances, graded specs, and fit comments.
  • Develop block fits for each category, including developing technical specs and construction details. Create and maintain a block library and construction standards.
  • Approve all graded specs once fit approval is received and maintain a graded spec library.
  • Oversee the final technical specs for each sample.
  • Communicate fit comments and corrections to vendors and factories using detailed sketches and photos to develop a good-fitting sample.
  • Identify potential production and quality problems at the development stage and make necessary recommended changes.
  • Manage and facilitate fit sessions independently with fit models and the buying team to ensure that fit and quality standards are met.
  • Schedule and maintain a fit calendar.
  • Support and contribute to visual construction of each style and make recommended style changes.
  • Research and resolve fit and construction issues using appropriate resources.
  • Measure samples point by point when submitted by vendors.
  • Review construction of garments and communicate to buyers and vendors of any sewing problems.
  • Maintain and enter specs in an Excel document.
  • Have knowledge of garment construction for fashion knit tops, bottoms, and outerwear.
  • Work with the PD Manager on any fit issues that develop during the pre-production/production process.
  • Write fit comments and corrections and work with the manager on correcting patterns/samples when needed.
Requirements:
  • Proficient in the use of Excel and MS Word.
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Strong merchandising, product, and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and decision-making skills.
  • Familiar with using fractions as a source of measuring and able to convert them into a decimal system.
  • Ability to perform all essential duties and responsibilities listed above.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner and respond with timeliness.
  • Able to effectively use common office equipment.
  • Resourceful and able to research problems and recommend solutions.
  • Numerical and analytical ability required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Trend and fashion awareness with the ability to understand current trends, competition, and market.
  • Ability to reprioritize projects frequently.
  • Must have the ability to multitask.
  • Independent, self-motivated, team player.
  • Able to effectively communicate with all levels of staff and management.
Education and Experience:
  • 4 years minimum of technical design experience required.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Minimum 2-year AA degree required (preferably in Fashion Design).
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Annual Salary Range: $75,000-$85,000. Offer placement within this range is dependent on a variety of factors, including prior relevant experience, qualifications, and skill set. Based out of HQ in Irvine, CA with a minimum of 4 days in office.
