Technical Designer Job Description

At Boot Barn, we're seeking a skilled Technical Designer to join our team. As a Technical Designer, you'll play a crucial role in managing product development from concept to production, ensuring consistent fit standards, manufacturing methods, grading, and pattern blocks between multiple factories.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and maintain product specifications, grading, and pattern blocks to meet seasonal calendars.
  2. Collaborate with cross-functional partners, including Design, Product Management, and Vendors, to create products that meet target cost and brand standards.
  3. Prepare prototypes and lead fit sessions with Design and Product Management to achieve a cohesive, executable direction.
  4. Develop and route technical packages, including graded specifications, construction details, and requested fit corrections, for accurate costing and prototyping.
  5. Continuously improve the quality of fit and construction.
Requirements:
  • Strong communication, customer service, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Degree or diploma in Technical Design, Design, or Product Development.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Technical Design team.
  • Able to communicate 3-D fit corrections into a 2-D pattern, with digital pattern proficiency a plus.
  • Thorough understanding of product engineering and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working on-site with factory/sample room a plus.
  • Strong working ability of Excel, Illustrator, and Microsoft Suite.
