Position: Certified Peer/Recovery Specialist I, II, III

Reporting To: Program Director

Role Summary:

The Certified Peer/Recovery Specialist (CPS/CRS) plays a crucial role in supporting individuals enrolled in our program by addressing the challenges associated with mental health and substance use disorder diagnoses. Utilizing the WRAP plan and a Person-Centered approach, the CPS/CRS empowers members to identify and pursue their personal goals. By offering unconditional support and nonjudgmental listening, the CPS/CRS acts as a mentor, helping individuals enhance their quality of life. This role fosters self-worth, wellness, empowerment, and self-advocacy, contributing to a culture of recovery and hope within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular meetings with members to explore their interests, strengths, goals, dreams, and aspirations, while providing encouragement through shared experiences.
  • Enhance members' strengths and capabilities.
  • Collaborate with members and the treatment team to develop personalized treatment plan goals.
  • Assist members in creating and utilizing their Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP).
  • Provide ongoing support and follow-up on treatment interventions as directed by the treatment team.
  • Facilitate skill-based groups tailored to members' needs and interests.
  • Co-facilitate various groups as needed.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, offering insights and feedback regarding member progress.
  • Support members in attending 12 Step Meetings, finding sponsors, and engaging in Step Work when appropriate.
  • Encourage the use of DBT skills as instructed by the team (training provided).
  • Advocate for members while promoting self-advocacy skills.
  • Welcome newly admitted members to the Project Transition community, providing orientation and information about program opportunities.
  • Facilitate community integration by connecting members with resources, mutual-help groups, social clubs, and job opportunities.
  • Serve as a role model by sharing personal recovery experiences appropriately, demonstrating that recovery is achievable.
  • Assist members in developing and implementing their transition goals and plans.
  • Document member progress, goals, challenges, and skill utilization in the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely manner.
  • Record meaningful activities with members, including group sessions and community outings.
  • Engage in agency workgroups, training sessions, and meetings.
  • Fulfill continuing education requirements as necessary.
  • Maintain CPS/CRS Certification throughout employment.

Performance Expectations:

  • Engage in multidisciplinary treatment teams, supporting and implementing interventions as directed.
  • Exhibit compassion and concern when assisting members, aligning with Project Transition's Mission and Core Values.
  • Approach member engagement with a non-judgmental perspective, recognizing that behaviors may stem from past experiences, including trauma.
  • Treat members with kindness and respect, even during challenging behavioral or emotional situations.
  • Seek guidance from clinicians or psychiatrists when uncertain about how to effectively support a member.
  • Report observations of member behavior that may indicate a need for additional support or interventions to the treatment team.
  • Engage with external parties professionally, maintaining a positive customer service approach.
  • Embrace the principles of a Trauma-Informed workplace.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required); bachelor's degree (preferred).
  • Completion of CPS/CRS training qualifications with documentation.
  • Maintain CPS/CRS certification throughout employment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • High-energy individual with a strong work ethic and ability to multitask.
  • Ability to foster a fun workplace environment.
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to confidentiality.
