Job Title: Senior Transportation Engineer

Under the general direction of a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Senior Transportation Engineer is responsible for leading a team in proactively identifying and implementing new technologies, innovations, and best practices to improve transportation safety outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement transportation safety strategies to reduce fatalities, serious injuries, and equity-based disparities in road safety outcomes.
  • Lead a team of engineers in conducting investigations related to traffic safety, public and legal inquiry, and reviewing documents such as Project Initiation Reports, Project Reports, and Plans, Specifications, and Estimates.
  • Supervise and manage resources, workload, and timely delivery of assigned tasks.
  • Collaborate with other Offices and Divisions within the District, Headquarters, and external transportation entities and industry stakeholders to achieve strategic goals.
Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
  • Occasional travel may be required; possession of a valid driver's license is required when operating a state-owned or leased vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in conducting investigations related to traffic safety, public and legal inquiry, and reviewing documents.
  • Experience in supervising or leading a team of engineering staff and managing resources, workload, and timely delivery of assigned tasks.
  • Experience working in other functional units such as Design, Construction, and Program/Project Management.
