Job Title: Tack Truck Operator

Surface Preparation Technologies (SPT) is seeking an experienced Tack Truck Operator to join our team. As a key member of our crew, you will be responsible for operating an asphalt distributor and maintaining a high level of workmanship to support our rumble strip crews at various job sites.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate equipment safely and efficiently, adhering to all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Drive and operate the tack truck, equipped with a tank to spray emulsions on road surfaces.
  • Regulate the burner to heat liquid and start the auxiliary pump.
  • Adjust valves to regulate the flow of material at specific rates and adjust levers to adjust the height from the road surface.
  • Monitor flow, tachometer, and temperature gauges to ensure uniform distribution.
  • Perform daily safety checks and maintain equipment in proper and safe working order, reporting any repair needs to the supervisor.
  • Understand and execute different emulsions.
  • Work long, flexible hours as demanded by our customers, including nights, weekends, and extended periods outdoors in all seasons.
  • Perform additional duties as required or directed by the immediate supervisor or other manager.
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License - Class A or B with tanker endorsement.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Emphasis on safety on and off the road.
  • Knowledge of DOT standards and requirements.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the truck is in safe condition.
  • Maintain telephone contact with dispatch and/or foreman for instructions.
  • Maintain truck logs as required by state, federal, and company policies and regulations.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and serviceability of assigned truck.
  • Ability to drive a manual transmission.
  • Ability to load the tack truck.
  • Understand and follow directions from supervisors regarding required work area and emulsion distribution rates.
  • Ability to perform basic math to confirm distribution rates are achieved.
  • Physical ability to operate the distributor and perform manual labor as needed, such as shoveling, sweeping, or other construction zone-related duties under extreme temperatures and for extended hours.
Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Stand and sit for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to drive up to 11 hours a day.
  • Walk, bend, kneel, twist, and climb.
  • Travel away from home for extended periods.
  • Lift and move up to 50 pounds.

$25.25 to start

Experience:
  • Truck driving experience: 1 year (preferred)
License:
  • CDL A or B (required)
  • Tanker endorsement (required)
Required Travel:
  • 75% (preferred)
