POSITION SUMMARY: The Practical Nursing Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality healthcare services to patients at El Rio Community Health Center. This position involves providing both clinical and non-clinical patient care within the professional scope of practice as defined by the Arizona State Board of Nursing and the policies established by El Rio Health. The Practical Nursing Specialist operates under general supervision, with any significant issues regarding practice scope or policy deviations being addressed with a supervisor for guidance.

The primary objective of the Practical Nursing Specialist is to uphold El Rio's mission of offering comprehensive, quality healthcare that is both affordable and accessible to all individuals in need of medical services by effectively executing essential job functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute all assigned clinical and non-clinical duties efficiently while adhering to established performance standards, ensuring the highest quality of care and minimal error rates.
  • Maintain proficiency in essential skills through annual competency evaluations, meeting the performance expectations for the role.
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in accordance with all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Protect patient confidentiality by managing the environment and information disclosed to authorized personnel, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Adhere to the organizational Code of Conduct and all relevant policies and procedures while interacting with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Promote a safe work environment by identifying and addressing safety hazards, participating in safety programs, and adhering to health and safety policies.
  • Complete all steps in the Patient Intake Process prior to patient consultations, accurately documenting all relevant information in the patient's Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Assist in the execution of procedures and activities within the scope of practice for a Practical Nursing Specialist, complying with all nursing policies.
  • Identify and respond to patient needs based on their visit reason, coordinating necessary medical records and test results.
  • Handle administrative tasks received through the Patient Portal and NextGen, ensuring timely documentation.
  • Exhibit professionalism in all clinical and non-clinical responsibilities across various assignments.
  • Evaluate and resolve clinical and non-clinical issues effectively and promptly using critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Complete Provider Orders accurately and timely, ensuring patients understand their discharge instructions, with documentation entered into the EHR.
  • Communicate with patients in a proactive and effective manner to encourage compliance with appointments and treatments, documenting these interactions in the EHR.
  • Demonstrate understanding and proficiency in compliance and reporting requirements related to Joint Commission Accreditation standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D).
Required Licenses and Certifications:
  • Current Licensed Practical Nurse license in good standing from the Arizona State Board of Nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
  • Level I fingerprint clearance card: current and valid or applied for within seven working days of employment commencement.
  • Reliable transportation for operational assignments during work hours, with a valid driver's license and compliance with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements if driving.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) with proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in both languages.
