Key Responsibilities
- Assist physicians with various aspects of patient care, including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.
- Ensure patient satisfaction by providing a high level of care and attention to detail.
- Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms and assist with walking, transfers, and other tasks as needed.
- Collect patient information/history, take vitals, and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
- Relay instructions to patients/families and ensure they understand their care plan.
- Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other state and federal regulations.
- Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and other relevant information.
- Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
- Schedule appointments and verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
- Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment, and maintain a clean and organized environment.
- Check schedules and organize patient flow to ensure efficient care.
- Answer calls and provide pertinent information, including patient education as directed.
- Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure, including phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
- Assist physicians with procedures and administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.
- Comply with requirements of regulatory agencies and maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.
- For Medical Assistant, Senior: successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT) or successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA) or at least 1 year of patient care experience required.
