Position Summary:
The Patient Care Technician plays a vital role in delivering essential support to patients by providing routine, non-professional nursing assistance that utilizes advanced medical and surgical skills. This position is crucial for monitoring patient conditions and ensuring their comfort and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver safe and effective patient care as directed by the assigned licensed nurse.
- Assist in gathering essential patient information as part of the nursing assessment and report any abnormal findings.
- Orient patients to their care environment to enhance comfort and safety.
- Observe and communicate any significant physical or emotional changes in patients to the assigned nurse.
- Monitor patients for specific risks and report observations accordingly.
- Conduct regular patient visits to promptly address their needs.
- Seek guidance in prioritizing multiple demands to effectively meet patient needs.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care for patients.
- Document patient care activities accurately and completely, adhering to unit standards.
- Remain composed and effective during emergency situations, following established protocols.
- Perform all assigned duties in accordance with care plans and hospital policies.
- Exhibit manual dexterity to perform necessary skills for patient care.
- Safely operate patient care equipment and ensure patient safety through proper equipment use.
- Implement infection control measures and adhere to safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring patient areas are neat.
- Report any broken or unsafe equipment to the appropriate personnel.
Self-Management:
Maintain professional appearance and comply with the hospital's dress code. Complete all assignments within designated timelines and adhere to safety and health standards.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- CNA Certification is required.
- Basic CPR certification.
- Knowledge of IV skills is preferred.
- Formal education equivalent to an Associate's degree is advantageous.
Communication Skills:
Ability to understand and respond to simple instructions, effectively exchange information, and demonstrate empathy in challenging situations.
Problem-Solving Skills:
Ability to follow established processes and procedures to resolve routine issues and effectively interpret guidelines in complex situations.
