Role Summary:

The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is responsible for evaluating and planning the nutritional care of residents in compliance with relevant federal, state, and local regulations, as well as organizational policies. This role collaborates closely with the Food Service Director/Manager to ensure high-quality food service and nutritional support.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related discipline.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Registered Dietitian credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • State-specific licensure or certification as required.
  • ServSafe Food Safety Certification is preferred.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in a long-term care setting and knowledge of geriatric nutrition is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate clinical nutrition documentation for residents in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure all assessments and progress notes are thorough and reflect the services provided and residents' responses.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to develop, implement, and assess care plans.
  • Engage residents and families in setting nutritional goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Food Service Director/Manager to customize menus that align with residents' preferences and dietary needs.
  • Monitor food quality and safety during service.
  • Oversee the distribution of meals and nutritional supplements, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Assist with diet order processing and ensure accurate meal delivery.
  • Conduct initial dietary assessments for new residents.
  • Regularly inspect food service areas for compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Support the Food Service Director/Manager in procurement and training of Nutrition Services staff.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Effective communication skills with residents, families, and team members.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Understanding of safe food handling and preparation practices.
  • Knowledge of large-scale food production techniques.
