Job Overview

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to various job sites using a personal vehicle.
  • Document compliance through notes, sketches, test results, and inspection data to assist in developing designs, specifications, and reports.
  • Adhere to established guidelines and instructions to effectively perform job functions.
  • Utilize calculators or computers to measure area, volume, and other dimensions.
  • Employ analytical skills to address challenges and communicate effectively with clients.
  • Conduct independent inspections on transportation construction sites, ensuring adherence to contract documents.
  • Examine roadway and bridge infrastructures for compliance with design plans, material specifications, and safety regulations; report findings accurately.
  • Review engineering layouts, profiles, and related documentation.
  • Interpret construction plans for structures, bridges, and roadways, understanding specifications and engineering references.
  • Participate in field reviews to assess project completion.
  • This is an entry-level position; prior experience may not be necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Basic math skills for geometric calculations (Levels I, II, and III).
  • Advanced mathematical skills for complex computations (Levels II and III).
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken (Levels I, II, and III).
  • Proficiency in using technology such as tablets and computers for data recording and reporting (Levels I, II, and III).
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities (Levels I, II, and III).
  • Reliability and punctuality are essential (Levels I, II, and III).
  • Valid Driver's License required (Levels I, II, and III).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work flexible hours, including nights and weekends (Levels I, II, and III).
  • Experience in highway construction, particularly with bridge and roadway methods (Levels II and III).
  • Capability to review construction documents for compliance (Levels II and III).
  • Basic knowledge of construction materials such as concrete and asphalt (Levels II and III).
  • Familiarity with DOT specifications and standards (Levels II and III).
  • Understanding of public utility relocations in construction contracts (Levels II and III).
  • Knowledge of regulations related to public utility installations (Levels II and III).
  • Certifications: At least one technical certification for Level II and two for Level III, such as NICET, ATSSA, or DNREC certifications.

Additional Certifications: Other beneficial certifications include Asphalt, Concrete, Soils and Aggregate, Fall Protection, Confined Space Training, OSHA Safety, and Nuclear Safety & Transportation.
