Financial Capabilities Intern

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Capabilities Intern to support our Financial Capabilities program in New Jersey. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in empowering participants to become self-sufficient through financial education and coaching.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-on-one financial coaching to clients, helping them achieve their financial goals and improve their financial stability.
  • Conduct budgeting and financial surveys with clients to identify areas for improvement and develop personalized financial plans.
  • Track client progress and meetings in a spreadsheet and through case noting on ETO software, ensuring accurate and timely data entry.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders, both in person and over the phone.
  • Accompany clients to bank appointments, providing support and guidance as needed.
  • Facilitate monthly financial literacy workshops for clients, delivering engaging and informative presentations on various financial topics.
  • Adhere to IRC policies, particularly those related to confidentiality and client privacy, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all clients.
Learning Objectives:
  • Develop expertise in managing financial education and coaching programs, including program design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Gain experience working with diverse client populations, including immigrants and refugees, and develop cultural competence in serving these communities.
  • Learn how to effectively case note client meetings and progress using ETO software, ensuring accurate and timely data entry.
Requirements:
  • Available for a minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • Prior experience in personal financial management, preferably in a counseling or coaching role.
  • Basic proficiency in digital literacy.
  • High school degree required.
  • Ability to speak Spanish highly preferred, with Arabic, Dari/Pashto, Haitian Creole/French, or Swahili also preferred.
