Position Overview
The electric supply industry is currently experiencing a swift transition driven by policy, regulatory, and economic factors, moving from traditional thermal resources to renewable energy generation and storage solutions. This shift is fundamentally altering market dynamics, necessitating innovative analyses to comprehend energy infrastructure investments and their value. Our experts are at the forefront of modeling and analyzing the ongoing transformation and future of the power sector, assisting clients in understanding investment risks and opportunities.
We are seeking a consultant based in Denver with expertise in energy analytics, quantitative analysis, and fundamentals to support our initiatives in guiding energy investors and utility clients through diverse and evolving investment and operational landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead or contribute to quantitative analysis and model development for energy infrastructure investments, expert witness testimony, market and regulatory proceedings, benefits assessments, whitepaper creation, stakeholder engagement, business model development, and integration.
- Identify and implement innovative methods for quantitatively assessing energy infrastructure benefits, costs, risks, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Independently initiate and complete analyses related to optimization in competitive markets, stochastic simulations, and the interactions between low-marginal cost resources and traditional energy generators.
- Oversee quantitative research tasks pertaining to energy, ancillary services, and capacity markets.
- Develop new models and tools that provide a long-term perspective on energy market evolution, particularly in light of clean energy policies.
- Effectively manage and meet deadlines across multiple projects.
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., computer science, economics, engineering, mathematics/statistics). An advanced degree is preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in programming languages and experience with object-oriented programming and cloud computing services (Python, R, C#, Julia, AWS, Azure, etc.).
- Demonstrated experience in data analytics and/or advanced statistical analysis related to energy infrastructure or markets.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in energy market analysis, fundamentals research, and support for trading/marketing/origination (may be offset by an advanced degree).
- Experience with Production Cost Modeling (Aurora, PLEXOS, GE MAPs, etc.) is advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Capacity to manage 5-10 concurrent projects and adapt to changing deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
