Position Overview: The Sous Chef plays a vital role in assisting the culinary team with the management of food production across all kitchen stations and supervising hourly staff. This position is accountable for ensuring the quality, quantity, and timely delivery of meals in line with Parkhurst standards while adhering to strict sanitary protocols as dictated by food safety regulations. The Sous Chef will also engage in maintaining the Culinary Gold standards of Parkhurst Dining in food production, sanitation, and employee management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and guide all culinary personnel to ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Assist in the procurement of food and supplies while remaining within budgetary constraints.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Chef on menu creation and oversee the completion of production sheets.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the kitchen to ensure compliance with sanitation and cleanliness standards.
  • Ensure consistency in recipe execution to guarantee a high-quality product.
  • Manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage during shifts.
  • Review daily production sheets and menu plans.
  • Prepare for upcoming special events and catering requirements.
  • Maintain open communication with management regarding inventory and supply needs.
  • Adhere to the uniform dress code and uphold personal hygiene standards.
  • Assist in inventory management and ordering processes.
  • Supervise staff performance and implement effective coaching and disciplinary measures.
  • Support the onboarding and training of new kitchen staff.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of culinary experience.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills are preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Capability to bend, reach, and grasp as needed.
  • Willingness to walk short distances within the kitchen.
  • Exposure to elevated noise levels, heat, and humidity.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods on hard surfaces.
