Job Overview:
The Psychiatric APRN plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive and integrated mental health services to individuals within the community. This position focuses on facilitating an effective psychiatric service program for both adults and children, emphasizing critical areas such as psychopharmacological interventions, inpatient care, community-based program referrals, and collaboration with the broader medical community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations to collect essential information regarding patients' mental health, medical history, and psychosocial dynamics. Utilize clinical expertise to establish diagnoses and create tailored treatment strategies.
- Treatment Planning: Formulate personalized treatment plans based on assessments, which may encompass medication management, psychotherapy, and counseling. Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare team members to set goals and interventions aimed at achieving optimal mental health outcomes.
- Medication Management: Prescribe and oversee medications for mental health conditions, evaluating patient responses, making necessary adjustments, and educating patients on potential side effects and interactions.
- Collaboration and Consultation: Engage with other healthcare professionals, including primary care providers and social workers, to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to patient care. This role involves consulting with colleagues to identify the most effective treatment methodologies.
- Progress Monitoring and Follow-up: Regularly evaluate patient progress and modify treatment plans as required. Assess medication effectiveness, therapy impact, and provide ongoing support to assist individuals in reaching their treatment objectives.
- Interdisciplinary Care: Maintain a collaborative treatment approach by reviewing treatment plans and progress, consulting with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, and other healthcare providers.
- Crisis Intervention: Offer crisis assessment and intervention for patients seeking care or referred by healthcare professionals.
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a focus on Psychiatric Nursing.
- Valid Licensure as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the State of Kansas.
- Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
- Board Certification in Adult and/or Child Psychiatry.
- Valid DEA Certificate.
- Active BLS Certification.
- Minimum of 2 years of direct patient care experience with individuals undergoing treatment for psychiatric disorders preferred.
- Experience working with both adult and pediatric populations preferred.
- Schedule: Full-time exempt.
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (as needed)
- Location: Heartland Community Health Center
Schedule may be adjusted by supervisors as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
