Job Summary

The Texas Juvenile Justice Department is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Specialist V to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance department, you will be responsible for performing advanced construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work on our facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced skilled repairs to systems equipment such as plumbing, masonry, welding, carpentry, electronic, electric, and HVAC.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on all systems and equipment according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Lead on construction, maintenance, or repair projects and supervise and direct maintenance department staff as needed.
  • Requisition materials, supplies, and equipment for assigned tasks in compliance with procurement procedures.
  • Maintain records of materials and supplies used and perform inspections of equipment, operating machinery, systems, building accessories, and appliances to ensure proper maintenance and repair.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Four (4) years of full-time wage earning experience in maintenance mechanic or related building construction experience.
  • Preferred: One hundred (100) hours of approved and documented maintenance continuing education credits/hours or certification in at least one major skill field such as HVAC, plumbing, welding, or construction.
Working Conditions

The Maintenance Specialist V will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines and may be required to work in excess of 40 hours per work week and be on-call. The position requires the ability to lift heavy objects, climb stairs and ladders, and work in a variety of weather conditions.
