Job Title: Computed Tomography Technologist

Cape Fox Shared Services is seeking a qualified Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist to provide diagnostic imaging services in an outpatient setting.

Job Summary:

The CT Technologist will be responsible for performing routine diagnostic radiological procedures, adhering to radiation safety policies, and sending images to radiologists for interpretation. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work independently, and have a strong understanding of radiologic procedures and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine diagnostic radiological procedures, including CT scans, as appropriate.
  • Adhere to radiation safety policies and procedures in accordance with Radiology Department policies and procedures.
  • Send images to radiologists for interpretation, following MTF protocol.
  • Correctly position patients for examinations and make technical adjustments as necessary.
  • Process digital images and submit them for interpretation by radiologists.
  • Document all procedures and maintain records in accordance with MTF policy.
  • Perform system calibrations and quality control tasks as required.
  • Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated personnel.
  • Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions.
  • Report problems to the Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the trouble call logbook.
  • Observe and report symptoms to radiologists that have direct bearing on patient condition.
  • Recognize the need for emergency measures and institute necessary procedures.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and reviewing quality improvement and quality control programs.
  • Provide consultation to other medical treatment facility departments that perform radiologic procedures.
  • Independently make examinations after conferring with radiologists to establish examination requirements.
  • Schedule, receive, and review requests from physicians and other healthcare providers for examinations.
  • Determine the condition(s) at issue and the procedures and equipment to best meet the needs of the individual case.
  • Explain procedures to patients and families.
  • Start intravenous fluids and monitor devices.
  • Recognize the significance of all structures and the differences between artifact and normal pathology.
  • Comply with accrediting and regulatory requirements, such as the American College of Radiology and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
  • Perform the full range of diagnostic CT examinations, including neuro, chest, abdominal, chest, pediatric, extremity, body, and muscular skeletal scans.
  • Select proper technical settings and scan protocol from computer menus.
  • Administer oral and intravenous contrast material, observing Universal Precautions as indicated by exam protocol.
  • Print CT images as needed and process films in automatic film processors.
  • Interview and screen patients concerning sensitivity to contrast material.
  • Assist radiologists in determining type and volume of I.V. contrast material to be administered.
  • Provide radiation protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards to staff and patients.
  • Evaluate CT images with radiologists to determine use of contrast or additional images.
  • Assist radiologists during CT-guided biopsy and aspiration procedures.
  • Responsible for obtaining optimal CT images to provide radiologists with information to assure accurate diagnoses.
  • Ensure all patient records are complete and signed prior to examination or procedures being performed.
  • Monitor equipment status indicators to prevent damage and liaise with GE and MEDRAD for equipment maintenance.
  • Perform daily quality control checks of CT scanners.
  • Check emergency equipment and drugs for missing and/or expired items.
  • Contribute to identifying required improvements, recommend corrective action, and work with appropriate personnel to correct deficiencies.
  • Help Government supervisors investigate, evaluate, and document all QI/QA problems or actions within the department as having a significant impact on the quality of patient care.
  • Assist the Government supervisor in developing quality control procedures for new radiologic examinations as they are introduced into the Radiology Department and modify existing procedures as needed.
  • Assist with formulating and maintaining record keeping in conjunction with the MQM quality assurance system in the Radiology Department.
  • Review current literature for improved QI/QA/QC procedures.
  • Participate in evaluating new protocols to determine their suitability for local use.
  • Consult with radiology managers and Chiefs in the development and implementation of the joint MDIS system.
  • Observe and contribute to instructing medical, professional, and paraprofessional personnel in the theoretical and practical aspects of quality assurance and quality control in the Radiology Department as it relates to PAC systems.
  • Conduct visits to other departments in the MTF concerning diagnostic radiology.
  • Perform highly sophisticated computerized axial tomographic (CT) scanning of heads and/or bodies.
