Athletics Playground and Field Maintenance Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic I to join our team in the City of Norfolk's Department of Parks and Recreation. This role will involve performing maintenance tasks on athletic fields, playgrounds, and other facilities, as well as providing support for special events and exhibits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform maintenance tasks on athletic fields, including repairing and maintaining equipment, painting and marking fields, and installing and removing goals.
  • Renovate, refinish, repair, and paint playground equipment and hard-court surfaces.
  • Install and maintain playground mulch and sand, and perform minor concrete repairs and installations.
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment, including changing belts, cleaning and servicing small chiller units, and inspecting and replacing blades, tires, belts, hoses, oil, lubrication, and filters.
  • Perform interior building maintenance, including minor plumbing tasks, repairing and replacing doors, windows, locks, roofs, ceilings, walls, and floors.
  • Provide support for special events and exhibits, including running power to exhibits and lighting, building small sheds, shipping containers, ramps, and signs, and setting up and dismantling tents, posters, signs, chairs, lights, tables, platforms, stages, games, bleachers, and fencing.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One year of experience as a building helper or apprentice preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Virginia Pesticide License required within six months of employment.
