KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching college-level psychology courses, which may encompass Introductory Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Social Psychology, Human Sexuality, and/or Human Growth and Development.

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of culturally-responsive teaching methods and effective strategies for engaging historically underrepresented and underserved student populations.

This position reports to the Chair of Behavioral Sciences and collaborates with other faculty members in the department.


Teaching Duties:

The primary teaching responsibilities will involve courses within the Psychology discipline. A full course load is defined as 15 credit hours per semester or 5 standard classes. Alternative assignments for administrative or related duties may be available.

Faculty members must demonstrate strong teaching abilities and engage students through both traditional and innovative instructional methods, including technology integration, while adhering to core values of critical thinking, respect, competence, professional development, and ethical responsibility.

A commitment to equity and student success beyond the classroom is essential, alongside effective interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills.


Service to the Institution:


In addition to teaching, faculty in this role will collaborate with colleagues to develop and refine curriculum and participate in departmental initiatives, ensuring coherence across various instructional formats (e.g., online, community campuses, and pre-collegiate programs), textbook selection, and faculty professional development.

Other responsibilities may include overseeing student organizations, advising students on academic programs and degree planning, and serving on college committees.

Professional Development:

Faculty are expected to remain active scholars in their field.

They should pursue academic growth through formal courses, conferences, workshops, and continuous exploration of Psychology and related disciplines.


Community Engagement:
Faculty should also take on leadership roles within the community, integrating community involvement into the college experience. Opportunities may include serving on local boards or commissions, contributing valuable leadership to the broader community.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education:
(required/minimum)

Master's Degree in Psychology or a closely related field with 18 graduate credit hours in psychology. A Doctorate in Psychology is preferred.

Experience:
(required)
Two years of teaching experience in psychology at a community college, college, or university setting.

Experience:
(preferred)
Three or more years of teaching experience, with a strong background in psychology. Prior experience in community college teaching and in multicultural settings is valuable. Experience in curriculum development, program assessment, and/or program development is advantageous. Experience as a Psi Beta advisor or in running psychology clubs or other student organizations is beneficial. Applied job and/or research experience is helpful. Multilingual skills are appreciated but not required. Collaborative teaching experience and familiarity with Learning Management Systems (D2L), instructional technology, and Microsoft Office programs are advantageous. Advising experience and strong administrative and organizational skills are also important.
