Position Overview:
As a Nuclear Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and compliance of nuclear operations. Your responsibilities will include leading safety basis review teams and conducting complex analyses that culminate in safety evaluation reports, which are essential for authorizing facility operations aligned with the objectives of the NNSA mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary technical expert in safety evaluations for Hazard Category 2 & 3 nuclear facilities.
- Conduct thorough technical analyses of Document Safety Analyses, ensuring all safety measures are effectively integrated throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with integrated project teams as a safety analyst, emphasizing the importance of safety in design.
Employment Conditions:
- Candidates must be subject to random drug testing and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test.
- A favorable suitability determination is required, along with financial disclosure.
- Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Q level Security Clearance and must be U.S. citizens.
- Compliance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12) is mandatory, requiring two forms of identification.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal service.
- Specialized experience must include evaluating the performance of a Nuclear Criticality Safety program in a management or oversight capacity.
Examples of Specialized Experience:
- Leading teams responsible for oversight assessments focused on nuclear criticality safety.
- Evaluating compliance with Nuclear Criticality Safety regulatory requirements.
- Assessing the overall health of safety management programs.
Education Requirements:
- Applicants must meet the basic requirements of the General Engineer occupational series, with a degree in professional engineering from an accredited institution.
- Transcripts or proof of required education must be included in the application package.
