The Utility-Scale Solar Engineering Specialist plays a pivotal role in driving portfolio and financial expansion by managing the technical, cost assessment, permitting, and proposal processes associated with the development of solar photovoltaic projects. Our focus is on projects ranging from 3 to 100 MW in capacity.

Key Responsibilities

The Utility-Scale Solar Engineering Specialist is essential to the project development lifecycle, requiring a robust blend of technical expertise, financial acumen, regulatory knowledge, and business insight. This role supports Project Developers in advancing greenfield, brownfield, or acquired projects through the following:

  • Assessing the feasibility of potential projects or sites
  • Conducting research on site-specific interconnection, regulatory, or permitting criteria
  • Formulating initial solar field scope, scale, and design
  • Enhancing and documenting solar field designs using PVsyst and CAD software
  • Creating project budgets, cash flow projections, and timelines
  • Preparing response documents for Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
  • Monitoring the Sunpin project pipeline
Collaboration and Strategic Planning

The Utility-Scale Solar Engineering Specialist collaborates effectively with colleagues involved in project site acquisition or divestiture, project development, Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) origination, project buyer origination, and internal financial assessments. This role demands the design and optimization of financial models and pro formas for complex, structured transactions, which may include illiquid or non-traded pricing nodes.

Working closely with mid and senior management, marketing, finance, and technical teams, strategic planning is a critical aspect of this position, as it significantly contributes to the development of new business opportunities for the company. This necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the market, the solutions and services offered by the company, a deep insight into customer needs, awareness of competitors, and strong quantitative skills.
