Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled GIS Specialist to join our team at Ahtna Government Services. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating visual graphics that support planning and reporting documents, serving as a point of contact for all GIS and graphic-related activities, and developing methods for data collection and display.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create baseline maps and other data layers as requested by project staff.
  • Exercise initiative, resourcefulness, and independent judgment in direction and establishment of technology solutions for the company.
  • Produce maps and cartographic products that are clear and understandable.
  • Load and convert databases, assist in production of database analysis and technical reports, and provide technical assistance and troubleshooting to end users of the system.
  • Review and convert content to appropriate file format for upload, collect current information from project stakeholders, and maintain organized files for maps, computer reports, field surveys, and other data.
  • Provide interface between GIS staff and consulting professionals working within the organization and perform any other duties as assigned by management.
Level-Specific Responsibilities
  • Level I: Project assistance to program and project managers, meeting scope, schedule, and budget on assigned tasks, execute assigned tasks in accordance with work plans and direction from higher-level staff, acquire and/or develop an area of technical expertise, and engage program and project managers for task assignments.
  • Level II: Provide client assistance to program and project managers, scope, schedule, and budget on projects, lead teams performing project tasks, both in the office and field locations, technical project execution and document preparation, peer review project documents, and assist with task order and project proposals.
  • Level III: Provide client assistance to program and project managers, scope, schedule, and budget on projects, lead technical project execution and document preparation, peer review project documents, assist with task order and project proposals, and design, develop, test, and debug GIS applications, train GIS staff on use of applications.

Minimum Qualifications
  • All levels: Associate degree in GIS (Geomatics), Environmental Scientist, Forestry, or relevant field.
  • Experience can be substituted for education on a 1:1 basis.
  • Current driver's license with clean driving record, ability to be covered on company insurance.
  • Environmental Science background.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in GIS (Geomatics) or relevant field.
  • Experience working on projects with Federal clients.
Working Environment

May be indoors or outdoors, subject to confined spaces, changes in temperature, weather conditions, and noise levels.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 to 5:00 or as business needs dictate.
