Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Access Coordinator to join our team at The George Washington University Hospital. As a Patient Access Coordinator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our department, providing exceptional customer service to patients and families, and working closely with our clinical teams to coordinate patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage new patient referrals and appointments, ensuring all necessary information is obtained to facilitate optimal care coordination.
  • Review department schedules to ensure appropriateness of scheduled appointments and backfill open slots.
  • Route calls or messages to appropriate clinical teams for proper triage and initiate prescription refill requests as needed.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and reconcile all clinical in-person and telehealth appointments.
  • Perform virtual and electronic patient registration and insurance verification, including prior authorization for patient treatment options.
  • Utilize video-conferencing technologies, telehealth technology, and scheduling software to coordinate and connect staff, resources, patients, and providers.
  • Accurately create and direct tasks to the appropriate individual, including admins, teams, and providers.
  • Perform all registration for new patients and update registration information for established patients.
  • Assess and process medication refill requests in accordance with current processes.
  • Provide patient instructions verbally or in writing as necessary to prepare patients for appointments.
  • Meet with assigned providers and care teams for schedule maintenance and collaborative care management.
  • Ensure all Radiation Oncology documentation is present in both ARIA and Epic for billing purposes.
  • Manage patient encounters (inpatient and outpatient) and create recurring encounters for treatment patients.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a health services-related field.
  • Radiation Oncology experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology or completion of a medical terminology course desired.
  • Demonstrated communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong team player mentality.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a medical/healthcare environment, including a hospital, physician's office, ambulatory clinic, or healthcare call center.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of call center experience.
  • Experience utilizing a web-based computerized system for scheduling and Microsoft Office programs, Word, and Excel.
  • Typing speed of at least 45 WPM required.
