Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Summary:

St. Luke's University Health Network is seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by performing laboratory tests and analyzing results.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform laboratory tests according to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Operate laboratory instrumentation and recognize instrument malfunctions.
  • Perform routine tests in other laboratory sections as assigned.
  • Collect and process blood samples for testing.
  • Monitor inventory of supplies and report low levels to the Technical Coordinator/Lead Technologist.
  • Accurately transcribe test results or enter results into the laboratory information system.
  • Follow established policies regarding proper documentation of critical values, reagent lot numbers, and other quality assurance data.
  • Recognize and notify supervisors and/or Technical Coordinators/Lead Technologists of technical problems.
  • Attend continuing education or training sessions to meet minimum standards of accrediting agencies.

Requirements:

  • MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
  • Successful completion of an accredited MLT program or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Sitting up to 7 hours per day, standing up to 5 hours per day, and walking up to 7 hours per day. Frequently uses fingers to manipulate small vials, pipetting, etc. Continuous use of hands for operation of laboratory equipment and computer keyboard. Occasional lifting of boxes/equipment up to 30 lbs. Occasional pushing/pulling of equipment. Frequent stooping, bending. Occasional crouching. Frequent reaching above shoulder level and stretching across work area (30" depth). Hearing as it relates to normal, high and low frequencies. Seeing as it relates to general, far, near, color peripheral vision. Depth perception. Ability to palpate veins.

Education:

MLT (ASCP) or equivalent.

Training and Experience:

Successful completion of an accredited MLT program or equivalent work experience.
