Retail Pharmacy Technician

St. Luke's Hospital is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our pharmacy department.
Key Responsibilities- Fills medications from computer-generated labels, demonstrating attention to detail and accuracy.
- Assists pharmacists in filling prescription items, adhering to state board regulations and guidelines.
- Labels products appropriately, including cautionary or auxiliary labels, to ensure patient safety.
- Takes inventory, places orders, checks in drugs and supplies, and stocks shelves to maintain a well-organized pharmacy.
- Inputs patient data and medication orders into a computer system, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
- Prepares medications, including emulsions, liquids, powders, and ointments, according to pharmacy protocols.
- Packages medications for dispensing and delivery, maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.
- Communicates effectively with nursing center personnel, customers, and colleagues, providing excellent customer service and maintaining a positive attitude.
- Processes returned medications from the facility for credit or destruction, adhering to pharmacy policies and procedures.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
- Delivers or retrieves medications as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to assist.
- Utilizes effective interpersonal communication skills, maintaining confidentiality of hospital information and addressing colleagues, nurses, and customers in a pleasant and cooperative manner.
- Performs routine activities with minimal supervision, offering to provide additional help when needed, and participates in training of new employees.
- Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the network/entity, adhering to proper release of information protocols.
- Complies with network and departmental policies regarding employee, patient, and environmental safety, and follows appropriate reporting requirements.
- Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes, and practices.
- Communicates with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims, verifies customer receipt of correct prescription(s), and communicates with prescribers and their agents to obtain refill authorization.
- Maintains knowledge of loss prevention techniques and complies with network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.
- National certification preferred.
- 3-5 years of retail pharmacy experience preferred.
- Professional demeanor and ability to respect confidentiality of patient data.
- Strong communication skills and knowledge of pharmacy insurance plans and plan rules.
- Courteous attitude and understanding of medical terminology and calculations.
- Ability to type at least 35 words per minute and knowledge of computer operations.
- Knowledge of medication brand and generic names, insurance, and third-party payment systems.
- High school diploma or graduate equivalent degree.
The Pharmacy Technician will work in a fast-paced pharmacy environment, requiring the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively. The position involves standing, walking, turning, stooping, bending, climbing, stretching, and lifting, as well as handling office equipment and visual and auditory acuity to provide job functions.
The Pharmacy Technician will be required to wear personal protective equipment, including eye protection, gloves, and a gown, and will be exposed to chemical hazards, biological hazards, and potential cuts and punctures.
The Pharmacy Technician will work in an office environment, with occasional travel to office errands in extreme cold and heat, wet and/or humid conditions, snow, ice, and/or fog, and will be exposed to hazards, including road and driving.
