Job Summary

Murfreesboro City Schools is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a School Garden Assistant - Farm to School Program. This is a part-time, 12-month position that will play a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our Farm to School Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the daily operations of the Farm to School Program, including planting, harvesting, watering, weeding, mowing, and composting.
  • Help coordinate farm to school classes/activities with teachers and staff, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for students.
  • Maintain the greenhouses and irrigation systems, ensuring optimal growing conditions for our crops.
  • Keep gardens watered, replenished, and free from weeds, ensuring a healthy and thriving environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Nutrition Supervisor, including maintaining aquaponic towers and keeping them clean and replenished.
Requirements
  • CREDENTIALS: High School Diploma or GED, with experience working with children, gardening, and food systems.
  • OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Proven experience in farming, sustainable farming practices, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently, with good balance and coordination.
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent changes in priorities and tasks. The School Garden Assistant - Farm to School Program will be required to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, as needed.

Reporting Relationship

The School Garden Assistant - Farm to School Program will report directly to the Nutrition Supervisor, who will provide guidance and support as needed.
