Job Summary
AkzoNobel is seeking a highly skilled Pilot Plant Chemist to support the Industrial Coatings Business. This role will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of pilot reactors, scaling up new resins, and collaborating with resin chemists to achieve business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain 15 gallon and 150 gallon pilot reactors, ensuring efficient and safe production processes.
- Collaborate with the pilot plant operator to run pilot reactors and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
- Develop and implement scale-up processes for new resin introductions and resin transfers to the Huron resin plant.
- Communicate effectively with resin chemists to share outcomes of pilot batches and ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of pilot plant equipment, ordering supplies and consumables as needed.
- Manage inventory and batching system for the pilot plant, ensuring accurate tracking and ordering of raw materials.
- Work with site HSES to determine proper HMIS codes and PPE requirements for all materials used in the pilot plant.
- Assist in determining waste profiles, tracking, and disposal of waste from the pilot plant to meet regulatory requirements.
- Ensure proper organization and storage of raw materials and finished goods in the pilot plant area.
- Manage pilot plant visitors and contractors in accordance with site rules.
- Participate in site processes such as BBS, internal audits, management review, Safety Day, and Quality Day.
- Present results and write technical reports to share with stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, or related field.
- Previous experience with polymer synthesis and chemical manufacturing is a plus.
- Compliance with all site HSES policies and requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
