Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Orthopedic Oncology Associate Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) to join our specialized team. The ideal candidate will work closely with our orthopedic oncology surgeons to provide comprehensive care to patients with benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors, metastatic bone disease, and other oncologic conditions affecting the skeletal system.

This role involves both outpatient and inpatient responsibilities, including assisting in surgery, performing clinical assessments, and managing the continuum of care for our patient population.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including history-taking, physical exams, and diagnostic evaluations in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Collaborate with orthopedic oncologists to develop individualized treatment plans for patients with bone and soft tissue tumors.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, and lab results) relevant to orthopedic oncology.
  • Provide pre- and post-operative care, including educating patients and families on the disease process, treatment options, and recovery.
  • Assist in surgical procedures in the operating room, including tumor resections, reconstructions, and limb salvage surgeries.
  • Perform first-assist duties and contribute to intraoperative decision-making alongside the lead surgeon.
  • Participate in surgical wound closure, casting, splinting, and applying dressings as needed.
  • Coordinate care with other oncology specialists, including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists.
  • Collaborate with rehabilitation services to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to patient recovery.
  • Assist in the transition of care from inpatient to outpatient settings, providing continuity and follow-up care.
  • Educate patients and families about their diagnosis, treatment options, surgical procedures, and recovery plans.
  • Provide compassionate and empathetic support to patients dealing with complex and life-threatening conditions.
  • Participate in clinical trials, tumor boards, and ongoing research in orthopedic oncology to remain current with advancements in the field.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement for patient care.
  • Contribute to departmental educational initiatives, including training and mentoring medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Additional duties as assigned by clinical or operational leadership.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited PA program with national certification (NCCPA).

Nurse Practitioner: Graduate of an accredited NP program with certification in Acute Care or Family Practice.

Licensed in the state as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.

Current BLS/ACLS certification.

Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in orthopedics, oncology, or surgical specialties preferred.

Experience in orthopedic oncology or oncology-related fields is a plus.

Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.

Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and surgical protocols.

Must meet credentialing criteria for medical staff.
