Respiratory Care Assistant

Join our team at Nationwide Children's Hospital as a Respiratory Care Assistant in the NICU department. As a key member of our respiratory care team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the hospital's mission to improve the lives of children everywhere.
Responsibilities:- Assess and document the effectiveness of ordered respiratory care treatments.
- Administer IPPB, PD&P, aerosol therapy, pulse oximetry, peak flows, oxygen, humidification therapy, and other airway clearance devices.
- Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot ventilators and O2 delivery devices.
- Respond appropriately to all codes and traumas.
- Perform tasks within scope of practice (e.g., CPR, C-spine immobilization).
- Responsible for the order entry and billing of services on the hospital computer system.
- Assist in arrangements for home care patients to include patient/parent teaching, review of equipment, and cleaning techniques.
- Accepts verbal orders from physicians that pertain to Respiratory Care and/or Patient Care Services policies and procedures in accordance with the verbal order policy of the Patient Care Services Department.
- Provides age-appropriate basic and intermediate care to patients of all ages (neonates to adults).
- Fulfills annual continuing education requirements for state licensure.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills required in interactions with patients and parents, and hospital staff.
- Ability to work under general supervision.
- Meets one of the following criteria:
- Enrolled and in good standing in a respiratory care educational program.
- Any patient care activities can only be done by those who are Limited Permit Holders in the state of Ohio.
