Job Summary

Cook Children's Health Care System is seeking a highly skilled Instrument Technician II to join our Sterile Processing team. As an Instrument Technician II, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by preparing and sterilizing medical instruments and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and sterilize medical instruments and equipment according to established protocols and procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain aseptic technique and proper sterilization procedures to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety.
  • Participate in the distribution of supplies to customers, providing excellent customer service and maintaining a positive working relationship with healthcare staff.
  • Perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance of department equipment to ensure optimal functionality and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of instrument preparation, sterilization, and distribution.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent required; some college education or advanced training (certified instrument specialist, etc.) desired.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an instrument technician.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique, proper sterilization procedures, decontamination, and assembly procedures per IAHCSMM, AAMI, AORN, AST, OSHA, JCAHO, and The Joint Commission.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures, surgical instruments, sets, and trays, including instruments, classification, disassembly, and cleaning procedures.
  • Certification in a national organization for sterile processing (CRCST or CBSPD) required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current HeartSaver Certification within 30 days of hire and maintained.
