Federal Background Investigation Specialist – Nationwide

POSITION: Federal Background Investigation Specialist

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct comprehensive federal background assessments and compile detailed reports in adherence to Federal Investigative Standards, relevant laws, and federal agency regulations. Engage in casework across the designated geographic area and travel to various employment, residential, and educational sites.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen;
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required;
  • At least 1 year of investigative experience within the last five (5) years, applying Federal Investigative Standards (FIS);
  • Possession of a reliable personal vehicle, valid driver's license, and a satisfactory driving record;
  • Willingness to travel for temporary assignments as necessary (by car or plane);
  • Must successfully pass background checks and complete all required training;
  • Ability to address practical problems and manage various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization;
  • Capability to interpret diverse instructions provided in oral, written, diagrammatic, or scheduled formats;
  • Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations;
  • Skilled in writing reports and business correspondence;
  • Competent in operating within a Microsoft Windows environment, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Internet, and Email;
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret (TS) clearance.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct in-person, one-on-one interviews with subjects to gather factual information regarding their background and character, following agency guidelines.
  • Collect factual data from various personal and record sources to generate a comprehensive report of investigation that includes all relevant details of an individual's background and character, in line with agency protocols.
  • Travel throughout the assigned geographic area to perform investigations at various employment, residential, and educational institutions as cases are allocated.
  • Must be prepared to travel within a 35-mile radius (or more) of the assigned location as required.
  • Engage in regular communication with managers and representatives at contractor facilities, various U.S. Government organizations, and law enforcement agencies to foster and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Adapt to evolving situations and environments as they arise, demonstrating the ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic levels.
  • Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills, maintaining a professional demeanor in all interactions.
  • Workload will depend on the availability of cases within the geographic area.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related discipline.
  • Current Top Secret clearance is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is primarily conducted from the investigator's home office and involves travel in the investigator's personal vehicle to various field locations for interviews. Coverage areas may require extended travel. Work hours are flexible and may not align with standard business hours, potentially including weekends or third-shift appointments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This role requires intermittent standing, writing/typing, walking, sitting, and driving throughout the workday, which may involve extended periods of activity.
