Position Overview:
As a Mental Health Specialist at The Equity Project (TEP) Charter School, you will play a crucial role in facilitating mental health support for students and their families. Your primary responsibilities will include designing and executing proactive programs that enhance social and emotional well-being, as well as addressing immediate student concerns and unexpected crises.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Mental Health and Counseling Services:
- Provide ongoing counseling to students and families requiring emotional and social support, including mandated sessions for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and additional support for other students.
- Collaborate with community organizations to coordinate mental health and family services for those needing external assistance.
- Facilitate mediations using relational-based approaches, in line with TEP's commitment to Restorative Justice Practices.
- Address daily challenges and respond to unforeseen student crises during school hours.
- Develop and implement innovative clinical interventions for students facing recurring challenges.
2. Mental Health Programming:
- Create and lead initiatives aimed at promoting emotional, mental, and psycho-social health among students and families.
- Design mental health programs tailored for staff to enhance their understanding and support of student needs.
Qualifications:
- Complete fluency in Spanish is essential.
- Strong alignment with TEP's mission to deliver exceptional mental health services to historically underserved student populations.
- A Master's degree in Social Work is preferred; candidates with degrees in School Counseling or School Psychology will also be considered.
- A minimum of two years of clinical experience working with children and families or in related fields.
- Familiarity with the instructional and social needs of at-risk students and those with disabilities.
- Proven ability to design and implement in-school prevention programs based on current best practices.
- Capacity to manage a regular counseling schedule while effectively addressing crises and prioritizing multiple urgent tasks.
