Job Title: Mental Health Specialist - Correctional Health Services

NYC Health + Hospitals is a leading public health care system in the nation, providing essential services to 1.4 million New Yorkers every year. We are seeking a skilled Mental Health Specialist to join our Correctional Health Services team.

Job Summary:

Under direction, the Mental Health Specialist will perform difficult and responsible professional work in the mental health discipline. The ideal candidate will have a valid license and current registration to practice as a Mental Health Counselor, as well as two years of full-time, paid, professional experience providing direct client care in a behavioral health setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provides counseling and consultation services for individual cases that require more in-depth knowledge of mental health counseling principles and techniques.
  • Provides counseling and support services on behavioral health issues to clients within medical services.
  • May provide direct supervision for mental health counselors assigned at Level I.
  • May represent the department at conferences, workshops, hospital or community functions; reports actions and findings to department.
  • May develop and conduct departmental training programs to introduce new developments and techniques within the mental health counseling discipline.
Requirements:
  • Valid license and current registration to practice as a Mental Health Counselor issued by the NYSED.
  • Two years of full-time, paid, professional experience providing direct client care in a behavioral health setting.
