Summary:
The Clinical Support Specialist role offers both clinical and administrative assistance to patients under the supervision of a healthcare Provider and/or licensed Nurse.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for examinations, including taking and documenting vital signs.
- Perform phlebotomy as required and administer medications as instructed by Providers in accordance with established policies.
- Gather and document information that aids in the assessment and planning of individualized patient care, including discharge preparations, under the guidance of the Licensed Nurse.
- Collect, process, and send laboratory specimens following the organization's protocols.
- Effectively communicate patient findings and relevant information to the Provider and/or Licensed Nurse using appropriate documentation methods.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of care within the electronic health record system.
- Conduct point-of-service tasks such as scheduling appointments, preparing for visits, collecting co-payments, and tracking patient flow.
- Execute clinical duties specific to the department, including point-of-care testing, hearing and vision assessments, and other procedures as necessary.
- Perform routine office tasks such as faxing, copying, and filing as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness, stock supplies, and prepare examination rooms for patient use.
- Foster and maintain positive relationships with patients, families, and team members.
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a secure environment for patients, families, and staff.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Additional Information:
Technical Skills:
- Preferred experience in phlebotomy.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
- Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (e.g., EPIC) or similar systems is preferred.
Education and Experience:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program, EMT Program, or Paramedic Program is required.
- Certification: Medical Assistant certification is preferred.
- Relevant Experience: No prior experience is necessary.
- Supervisory Experience: None required.
