Overview
The role is pivotal in overseeing, managing, and enhancing behavior support services and the application of evidence-based behavioral strategies for students across the educational system. This position aids educational institutions in analyzing student performance data to identify professional development needs and recommend intervention strategies aimed at bridging achievement gaps. Regular and extensive interactions occur at all organizational levels to articulate and implement educational programs and policies, necessitating a high degree of professional judgment.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze data to enhance the performance of students facing behavioral and disciplinary challenges.
- Assist in the creation and execution of programs and best practices related to behavioral instruction.
- Support school staff in providing positive behavioral interventions for students with varied needs.
- Coach support personnel in both general and special education contexts.
- Collaborate with educators on crisis intervention, collaborative learning issues, and the development of intervention strategies, student support plans, functional behavioral assessments, and behavioral intervention plans.
- Work in conjunction with other educational professionals (such as school psychologists and counselors) to establish a support system for students requiring tiered interventions.
- Engage directly with students exhibiting complex and challenging behaviors necessitating Tier III support.
- Deliver professional development that aligns with federal laws, state regulations, and district policies, focusing on behavioral issues.
- Provide direct interventions and support to students, teachers, and the broader learning community, particularly at the high school, middle, and elementary levels.
- Possess a thorough understanding of special education regulations and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief of Schools or designated representative.
- Proficient knowledge of behavioral science, general education, and special education regulations.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with school personnel, administration, students, parents, and community organizations.
- Commitment to maintaining accountability and confidentiality.
- A valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education or Administration and Supervision, or licensure in Pupil Personnel Services is mandatory.
- Board Certified Behavioral Analysts (BCBA) are preferred.
- An advanced degree or endorsement in social work or psychology is advantageous.
- Three to five years of successful experience in clinical or classroom settings working with at-risk youth or children with challenging behaviors is preferred.
- Experience in managing meetings and communicating compliance-related topics is beneficial.
- Prior experience in educational leadership, coaching, or curriculum development is desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, operational instructions, and procedural manuals. Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence. Capable of effectively addressing groups of parents or the public.
- Ability to apply common sense to execute simple instructions. Competence in handling standardized situations with minimal variability.
- Must be able to travel between schools.
- Capable of lifting heavy items such as laptops, projectors, textbooks, instructional materials, and other equipment.
