Position Overview:
The Clinical Practice Specialist (CPS) is a pivotal role within the Cardiovascular Surgery department, acting as the primary authority on nursing practices within the designated unit. This position is integral in fostering a culture that prioritizes exceptional patient care and service quality.
The CPS is tasked with utilizing and imparting evidence-based methodologies to enhance the clinical skills of bedside caregivers. This role is essential in inspiring and guiding staff towards achieving a standard of clinical excellence through coaching, teaching, and demonstrating expected professional behaviors.
The CPS will report indirectly to the Director of Clinical Education and will collaborate closely with nursing leadership and clinical educators to evaluate and identify specific practice needs among nursing staff. This includes providing tailored clinical interventions to support their professional development.
As a clinical resource, the CPS will support both new nurses and their preceptors, as well as experienced hires and Nurse Externs, ensuring that patient care is delivered competently. The CPS plays a crucial role in maintaining the continuity of clinical practices and adherence to care standards, including but not limited to Infection Prevention, Patient Safety, and Patient Experience.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Minimum: Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or currently enrolled in a BSN program
- Preferred: Master’s degree in Nursing with a focus on Clinical Specialization or Clinical Education
Experience:
- Minimum: At least three years of experience in acute care nursing within the specialty area
- Preferred: Previous experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Clinical Educator, or in a supervisory role
Licensure and Certifications:
- Current Florida Registered Nurse License
- Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association
Additional Skills:
Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are essential. Strong organizational and planning abilities, along with effective collaboration and teamwork skills, are required. The CPS should also possess excellent teaching, coaching, and mentoring capabilities.
