Car Sales Person Job Description

The Car Sales Person is responsible for selling new and/or used vehicles at the dealership, meeting gross profit, volume, and customer satisfaction standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Sales Performance: Sell and deliver a minimum of 10 units per month.
  • Customer Interaction: Approach, greet, and offer assistance or direction to any customer who enters the dealership showroom or sales lot.
  • Vehicle Selection: Assist customers in selecting a vehicle by asking questions and listening carefully to their responses.
  • Product Knowledge: Explain fully product performance, application, and benefits to prospects.
  • Test Drives: Offer test drives to all prospects, following dealership procedure to obtain proper identification.
  • Dealership Systems: Utilize dealership sales control and follow-up system.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Exhibit a high level of commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Training and Development: Attend product and sales training courses as requested by sales manager.
  • Product Knowledge: Keep abreast of new products, features, accessories, etc., and their benefits to customers.
  • Deal Closure: Ensure that the sales manager has an opportunity to meet each customer, and turn 100 percent of closed deals to finance and insurance manager.
  • Paperwork and Delivery: Write complete sales orders, process paperwork, and prepare sold vehicles for customer delivery.
  • Post-Delivery: Follow up on all post-delivery items, tag/title work, we-owes, and special requests to ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Owner Follow-up: Maintain an owner follow-up system to encourage repeat and referral business.
  • Prospect Development: Maintain a prospect development system.
  • Performance Review: Review and analyze actions at the end of each day, week, month, and year to determine how to better utilize time and plans more effectively.
  • Teamwork: Attend sales meetings and maintain a professional appearance.
  • Driving Record: Maintain an acceptable driving record according to our insurance standards at all times.
