Responsibilities:


The Phlebotomy Technician I is primarily responsible for performing skin puncture or venipuncture on patients across all age groups to collect blood specimens for clinical laboratory analysis, operating under the guidance of the Laboratory Director, Manager, or Supervisor.

The PT I will: 1) execute computer data entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical tasks, 2) demonstrate sufficient knowledge of laboratory test terminology, 3) exhibit strong communication skills and telephone etiquette while interacting with patients and visitors in a courteous manner, 4) apply proper phlebotomy techniques and utilize equipment for specimen collection from newborns to elderly patients, 5) manage microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank specimens, 6) handle specimens for referral to external laboratories, 7) maintain inventory and order routine supplies, 8) ensure cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, and workspaces, 9) process or load specimens onto automated laboratory instruments in accordance with established policies and procedures, 10) assist in sample collection from various departments, support laboratory specialties in sorting samples for analysis, and manage inventory and supply replenishment, 11) perform additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the department manager or director.

Qualifications:
Education and Work Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Current BCLS (AHA) certification is preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience is preferred
