About the Role

The Steam Plant Shift Operator is a critical position at Carrier, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our steam plant at the University of Rhode Island. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the plant's equipment, including boilers, steam/feed/condensate systems, and electrical switchgear.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain four water tube boilers and supporting equipment, ensuring continuous operations and optimal performance.
  • Respond to emergent equipment failures or power plant trips, providing prompt and effective solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Perform regular chemistry tests on water and steam systems, making necessary adjustments to maintain optimal conditions.
  • Conduct regular plant inspections, documenting issues and implementing corrective actions to prevent future problems.
  • Collaborate with the Operations & Maintenance Supervisor to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
  • Perform planned and preventative equipment maintenance, as well as emergent/corrective maintenance as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of plant operations, including log sheets and documentation of issues.
  • Interface with customers and subcontractors as assigned, providing excellent customer service and support.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; 1+ years of operational and/or technical experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work on elevated platforms.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 10 certification or ability to earn certification after hiring.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent mechanical and electrical aptitude, with ability to troubleshoot and maintain complex equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
