Senior Sensory Technician

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Sensory Technician to join our team at The J.M. Smucker Co. in Orrville, Ohio. As a Senior Sensory Technician, you will be responsible for executing sensory panels, maintaining lab records, and applying sensory evaluation methodologies to organize and execute consumer and trained panels.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute sensory panels, including sample preparation, serving samples, and sensory test execution
• Maintain thorough lab records, including instructions, protocols, panel execution records, and panel attendance
• Apply sensory evaluation methodologies to organize and execute consumer and trained panels
• Build relationships within the Sensory team and with customers to enhance communication
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of sensory practices with a focus on Sensory lab processes
• Maintain a clean and organized laboratory work environment, including managing/purchasing lab supply inventory and maintenance for equipment
• Support training for other departments or locations for sensory evaluation needs
• Guide sensory personnel by teaching Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a scientific/mathematical related discipline
• Minimum 3 years of work experience in food manufacturing, sensory science, or food Research & Development
• Strong communication skills (written and oral)
• Customer Service communication skills
• Strong computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office
• Detail oriented and ability to multi-task and adapt in a dynamic business environment
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and walk/stand for most work hours
• Good analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to be proficient working on a team and individually
• Strong organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior lab experience or internship
• Familiarity with sensory evaluation methodologies/statistics related to affective, discrimination, and descriptive testing
