Housing Manager Job Description

Job Summary:

The Housing Manager is responsible for the direction and coordination of all services for a public housing property. This includes ensuring the delivery of management services, negotiating lease and rental agreements, and collecting current and delinquent rents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and coordinate all services for a public housing property
  • Negotiate lease and rental agreements
  • Collect current and delinquent rents
  • Ensure the smooth interaction between residents and subordinate staff
  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of property buildings and grounds
  • Receive and process tenant complaints and requests for repair and maintenance
  • Coordinate eviction actions initiated by the District of Columbia Housing Authority
  • Monitor the property's budget and recommend budget modifications
  • Ensure operating procedures are documented and updated as necessary
  • Monitor and evaluate routine operations and special activities for efficiency and effectiveness
  • Provide overall guidance and interpretation to subordinate staff
  • Develop and implement procedures for evaluating the performance of subordinate employees
  • Supervise and effectively utilize property staff

Requirements:

  • High School diploma/GED (Bachelor's degree preferred)
  • At least 4 years' experience in the public housing environment
  • At least 1 year in a supervisory or managerial capacity
  • Current certification as a Housing Manager from an approved certifying organization

Working Conditions:

The Housing Manager position requires on-call duty, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The incumbent must possess a valid driver's license and the ability to maintain authorization to drive a DCHA-owned vehicle in accordance with the DCHA Fleet Management Policy.

Additional Information:

This position has been designated by the department to require a drug and alcohol screening and background check. Finalist(s) for this position will be subject to drug and alcohol testing and will be required to consent to a pre-employment background check as a condition of employment.
