Job Title: Direct Support Worker

Easterseals Hawaii is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Worker to join our team. As a Direct Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting adults with disabilities to achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated and reliable individual who can work with adults with disabilities, promoting their individual growth and development in a safe and positive learning environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support and assistance to participants in various settings, including programs, communities, and home-based settings.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support participants to achieve their highest level of independence and pursue their definition of a good life.
  • Implement individual plans and provide input on participant progress.
  • Monitor and respond to issues of concern, reporting to the Case Coordinator or supervisor as needed.
  • Provide personal care and assist with daily living activities, respecting participants' privacy and confidentiality.
  • Accurately complete participant-related data and documentation via a web-based platform.
  • Submit timesheets, leave requests, and other required paperwork via the Family of Company's web-based platforms.
  • Attend and participate in department meetings and trainings as required.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, hygienic, and safe environment.
  • Respond to emergencies and report safety concerns to the Program Manager or supervisor.
  • Handle multiple tasks, adhere to deadlines, and process urgent projects while paying attention to detail.
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Exercise patience and understanding when working with participants of varying skill levels and individual needs.
  • Be culturally respectful and communicate effectively with an ethnically, linguistically, and economically diverse population.
  • Exercise confidentiality and discretion in the work environment, adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Be committed to the values of the organization, demonstrating good judgment, flexibility, and discretion when dealing with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Operate a computer, iPad, or tablet, and standard office equipment, with proficiency in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Ability to work comfortably with individuals at all levels within the organization.
Physical Requirements:
  • Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, twisting when working with participants.
  • Responsive to audio and visual cues from participants and their families, other staff members, and the environment.
  • Work calmly during behavioral and health-related incidents.
  • Use logic and reasoning to anticipate future needs, goals, and events.
  • Stand or sit for extended periods, with occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and loading of materials up to 50lbs.
  • Provide assistance during transfers, with some participants requiring the use of a Hoyer lift.
  • Frequent driving to and from office, community, and participants' homes, depending on assignment.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Ability to obtain and maintain criminal record clearance through the Department of Justice (DOJ).
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Valid Driver's License with Insurance, proof of current vehicle registration, and safety check, with a clean driving record.
  • Pass health screenings, obtain vaccinations, and clear TB testing based on company policies.
  • Obtain and maintain clearance through the Office of Inspector General.
  • Obtain and maintain current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Attend all required training.
Time Type:

Full-time

Compensation:

$17.50 - $18.50 per hour
