Salary:

This position typically starts at an annual salary of $53,000, with the potential for salary adjustments based on education and relevant experience.

CDL Positions:

Candidates possessing a current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will receive an additional $1 per hour for this role. Those without a CDL will be given 90 days to obtain one, with training provided by INDOT, and will also earn an additional $1 per hour upon successful acquisition of their CDL.

Location:

This position is situated within INDOT's operational areas.

A Day in the Life:

The primary responsibilities of this role include:

  • Ensuring that both INDOT and contractor personnel are executing work safely.
  • Overseeing assigned INDOT construction technicians.
  • Guaranteeing that projects are completed in accordance with plans, specifications, and contractual obligations, as well as within budget and on schedule.
  • Conducting sampling and testing of construction materials or coordinating the work of assigned technicians.
  • Participating in construction status meetings.
  • Providing clarifications as requested by contractors and suggesting revisions as necessary to align with the project's scope.
  • Reviewing working and shop drawings submitted by contractors, suppliers, and fabricators.
  • Evaluating construction schedules.
  • Preparing inspection reports, progress reports, and other construction documentation.
  • Reviewing and approving daily field reports prepared by assigned technicians.
  • Drafting project-specific responses to inquiries from local public officials, media, and other interested parties for the District Communications Director.
  • Engaging with property and business owners in the project vicinity to address access, drainage, and other construction-related issues.
  • Performing additional related duties as assigned.

What You'll Need for Success:

To be considered for this position, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of HT Academy coursework or equivalent post-secondary education in a related field preferred. One year of experience in construction contract administration is preferred.
  • Six months of experience in supervisory principles and techniques or equivalent training.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction material sampling and testing standards, as well as FHWA and INDOT test procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret highway and bridge plans and identify errors and omissions.
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access).
  • Effective communication skills with staff, the public, contractors, consultants, and other Department sections, both orally and in writing.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or the ability to obtain it within 90 days.
  • Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may provide direct supervision for one or more staff members.
