Job Title: Clinical Risk and Loss Prevention Specialist

About the Role

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a highly skilled Clinical Risk and Loss Prevention Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in identifying and mitigating risks to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our patients, visitors, and staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with executive, regional, and local leadership to create a culture of risk prevention and reduce harm to patients and staff.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize the adverse event reporting platform and improve data quality.
  • Work with regional and local campus risk management and quality/safety leadership to promote a culture of safety and reporting.
  • Lead the governance structure to make decisions and engage stakeholders in creating a reporting platform that meets the needs of enterprise risk management, patient safety, and quality.
  • Partner with data analytics to develop de-identified dashboards and trended information.
  • Present information at network and campus committees to drive awareness and learning from adverse events.
  • Infuse machine learning, artificial intelligence, and automation into the current system while monitoring for unintended consequences and quality assurance.
  • Address barriers to reporting and develop solutions to facilitate proactive involvement of stakeholders and change the reporting culture.
  • Collaborate with site risk, patient safety, quality, patient experience, and human resources leadership to respond to adverse events and grievances.
  • Oversee and direct occurrence reporting process for site and ensure timely data entry of reports received.
  • Complete trend analysis of occurrence reports and develop safety culture initiatives.
  • Oversee risk management software to drive risk mitigation and safety culture improvement across the network.
  • Provide timely monthly reports to the Sr. VP & Chief Risk Officer of activities at site.
  • Create and implement new programs to foster a culture of safety and a safe environment for patients, visitors, staff, providers, volunteers, and customers.
  • Provide statistical analysis for review by appropriate committees as requested.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize workflows for event reporting and analysis.
  • Design educational and training programs for the platform to drive clinical and operational risk reduction.
  • Envision, recommend, and implement enterprise-wide clinical risk guidelines, protocols, and standards.
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators and Dashboard for Clinical Risk & Loss Prevention.
  • Provide litigation support to HMH Legal Team and external Defense Panel Counsel.
  • Serve as senior clinical risk advisor to the enterprise.
  • Lead or co-lead the Patient Safety Organization (s) for HMH.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in the healthcare industry.
  • Minimum of 3 years of healthcare risk management or patient safety experience required.
  • Strong understanding of project management, enterprise risk management, process review, root cause analysis, Department of Health and Joint Commission requirements, emergency management, and regulatory compliance.
