Compensation:
Hourly Wage: $30 - $40 per hour
Position Overview:
This role involves performing maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles, including commercial motor vehicles, internal combustion engines, and air compressors. The technician may also undertake welding tasks as part of the repair process and will carry out additional related responsibilities as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
The following duties are essential for this position:
- Lubrication: Conduct oil changes, air and fuel filtration, grease point maintenance, and inspections to identify irregularities.
- Bodywork and Painting: Execute body repairs and painting tasks.
- Equipment Familiarization: Operate welding and burning equipment, as well as lathes, saws, shapers, grinders, and presses.
- Fuel System Maintenance: Service fuel injector pumps, nozzles, and engine governors.
- Engine Rebuilds: Assist in overhauling and testing both gas and diesel engines.
- Transmission Overhauls: Support the overhaul of mechanisms that transfer engine power.
- Air-Cooled Engine Repairs: Aid in the overhaul of air-cooled engines and their applications.
- Parts Management: Familiarize with parts catalogs, procurement, handling, storage, and cost management.
- Electrical System Repairs: Assist in the maintenance of starters, generators, and voltage regulators.
- Shop and Field Repairs: Contribute to the repair and overhaul of various equipment, including autos, trucks, rollers, mixers, graders, compactors, pumps, and compressors.
Field Responsibilities:
The field mechanic is responsible for executing necessary repairs on-site and implementing preventive maintenance practices to enhance equipment longevity.
Additional Requirements:
Exhibit a professional demeanor towards colleagues, supervisors, inspectors, engineers, and the public. Willingness to travel and work away from home is essential, as is the ability to work nights and weekends when necessary. Adherence to safety protocols as outlined in company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations is mandatory. Collaboration in a team environment and assistance to colleagues or supervisors with various tasks is expected.
Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. A Commercial Driver's License with appropriate endorsements may be required for certain vehicles. Compliance with physical requirements as per state and federal regulations for operating heavy vehicles is necessary.
Education and Experience:
A minimum of less than high school education or up to one month of related experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
