SALARY RANGE:$68,905.20-$100,005

Founded in San Francisco in 1902, the LightHouse's mission is to enhance the independence, equality, and self-sufficiency of individuals who are blind or visually impaired. The organization is currently expanding its capacity to serve a greater number of clients with low vision and blindness.

OVERVIEW:

LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, located in downtown San Francisco, is seeking a full-time Early Childhood Blind and Low Vision Specialist to support the community in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Early Childhood Blind and Low Vision Specialist will report to the Director of the LightHouse Little Learners Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum B.A. or B.S. degree

  • Preferred: Masters/Credential in Visual Impairments, Orientation and Mobility, Early Childhood/Special Education, Physical or Occupational Therapy, or Social Work
  • At least three years of experience working with infants and preschoolers who are blind or have low vision, or who have developmental delays including blindness or low vision; or who are deafblind
  • Minimum three years of experience conducting home visits to families
  • Experience in multicultural educational settings
  • Trained in Lilli Nielsen's Active Learning philosophy
  • Familiarity with early childhood Assistive Technology and AAC

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Early Childhood Blind and Low Vision Specialist will provide services in the following areas:

Family Services:
  • Deliver parent/caregiver education and family-centered coaching for families of young children (birth to three years) who are blind or have low vision
  • Provide information and resources regarding their child's visual impairment
  • Conduct parent interviews and perform developmental and functional vision assessments
  • Encourage parent/caregiver and child interactions through adapted play and routine-based activities
  • Support the parent/caregiver-child relationship using infant and family mental health principles
  • Coach families in advocacy skills for their children
Community Collaboration and Outreach:
  • Consult and establish professional relationships with community representatives
  • Collaborate with the child's site-based early intervention program
  • Provide information, resources, and referrals to families
  • Assist in conducting workshops and training sessions on early childhood blindness and low vision
Case Management:
  • Maintain and organize secure client case files
  • Communicate with community partners regarding service provision
  • Prepare and submit Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) outcome reports
  • Keep accurate client billing records
  • Adhere to HIPAA and FERPA regulations
Organizational Support:
  • Establish and maintain a safe home office environment
  • Assist with confidential data collection
  • Participate in scheduled All-Staff and LightHouse Little Learners Program Staff Meetings

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Commitment to adhering to COVID-19 protocols
  • Able to lift boxes and materials weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Able to work in various environments and locations

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical work hours: 9 AM-5 PM, 5 days per week per FTE

  • Willingness to work outside of standard hours as needed
  • Work is conducted in a well-lit, ventilated home or office environment
