The annual base salary range for this position reflects a nationwide market range and encompasses a broad spectrum of salaries for this role across the country.
The actual salary will be influenced by various factors, including the role's scope, complexity, and location; the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials, and experience; along with other employment conditions.
As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees may also qualify for performance-based cash incentive awards.Salary Range

What Is the Opportunity?
This position, under general supervision, is tasked with investigating, evaluating, reserving, negotiating, and resolving assigned Specialty Liability Bodily Injury and Property Damage claims.
Ensures quality claim management throughout the claim lifecycle (customer interactions, coverage assessment, investigation, evaluation, reserving, litigation management, negotiation, and resolution) while adhering to internal and external quality standards and state-specific regulations.
Acts as a consultant and training resource, serving as a contact and technical resource for the field and our business partners.
This role does not involve managing staff.What Will You Do?
Handle assigned severity claims directly.
Deliver exceptional customer service and ensure timely coverage analysis and communication with insured parties based on policy information relevant to each case's facts or allegations.
Consult with the Manager regarding the use of Claim Coverage Counsel as necessary.Investigate each claim promptly and strategically by contacting relevant parties such as policyholders, claimants, law enforcement, witnesses, agents, medical providers, and technical experts to ascertain liability, damages, and contribution potential.
Conduct interviews with witnesses and stakeholders; gather necessary statements as strategically appropriate.Engage actively in identifying, selecting, and directing suitable internal and/or external resources for specific activities required to evaluate claims effectively, such as Subrogation, Risk Control, nurse consultants, and fraud investigators.
Verify the nature and extent of injury or property damage by obtaining and reviewing relevant records and documentation.Maintain claim files and document activities in accordance with established procedures.
Utilize evaluation documentation tools per department guidelines.
Proactively create Claim File Analysis (CFA) to ensure adherence to quality standards.
Employ a diary management system to guarantee timely handling of all claims.
At required intervals, assess liability and damages exposure.
Establish and maintain appropriate indemnity and expense reserves.
Recommend cases for discussion at roundtables.
Participate in or present at roundtables/authority discussions to share technical expertise, resulting in improved indemnity and expense payouts.
Enthusiastically share experiences and knowledge of creative resolution techniques to enhance claim outcomes for others.Apply the Company's claim quality management protocols and Best Practices to all claims; document any deviations from applicable protocols with or without assistance.
Develop and implement innovative resolution strategies.Responsible for the prompt and proper resolution of all claims within delegated authority.
Negotiate claim resolutions with insured parties and claimants or their legal representatives.
Recognize and implement alternative resolution methods.
Manage litigated claims.
Formulate litigation plans with staff or panel counsel, including discovery and legal expenses, to ensure effective resolution and customer satisfaction.
Apply litigation management through the selection of counsel, evaluation, and direction of claim and litigation strategy.Monitor and control legal expenses to ensure cost-effective resolutions.
Effectively manage both allocated and unallocated loss adjustment expenses.
Perform other assigned duties as necessary.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
A Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
Advanced knowledge in coverage, contract interpretation, liability and damages analysis, along with a comprehensive understanding of the litigation process, relevant case law, and expert litigation management skills is preferred.
Extensive experience in claims and/or legal matters with the technical expertise to evaluate severe and complex claims is preferred.Able to make independent decisions on most assigned cases without supervisor involvement is preferred.
Thorough understanding of business line products, policy language, exclusions, ISO forms, and effective claims handling practices is preferred.

What is a Must Have?
A High School Degree or GED.
A minimum of 3 years of liability claim handling experience and/or comparable litigation claim experience.
To perform essential job functions, acquisition and maintenance of Insurance License(s) may be required to comply with state and Travelers requirements.
